Or, in other words, the organic compounds in which the $ - C - H $ group is present are included in the Aldehyde homologous series. The common/general formula of this series is $ {C_n}{H_{2n}} $ where $ n $ is the number of carbon atoms.
For IUPAC nomenclature the suffix ‘e’ is substituted by $ - al $ of relative alkane.
The first three members of this series are as follows:
(i) Methane: is the first member of this series, whose IUPAC name is “Methanal”. And the formula of this aldehyde is $ HCHO $ .
(ii) Ethane: is the second member of this series, whose IUPAC name is “Ethanal”. And the formula of this aldehyde is $ C{H_3}CHO $ .
(iii) Propane: is the third member of this series, whose IUPAC name is “Propnal”. And the formula of this aldehyde is $ C{H_3}C{H_2}CHO $ .

Structure of aldehydes: In formaldehyde, the simplest aldehyde, the carbonyl group is bonded to two hydrogen atoms. In all other aldehydes, the carbonyl group is bonded to one hydrogen and one carbon group.
