Hint: In this question, we need to comment on the given statement whether it is true or false. For this, we will verify the statement “Air is a good conductor of heat” thoroughly by justifying the answer.
Complete step by step answer:
Air is the indigenous gaseous component in the atmosphere. Air consists of atoms which are neutral in nature. The molecules of the air do not have any predefined path and the predefined shape so, the molecules (the combination of atoms) are not in constant motion of each other and revolve (moves) in a zigzag motion. For the heat to be transferred from one point of source to another point, then the molecules of the medium between the sources should be in regular contact so as to transfer the heat from one point to another as in the case of an iron rod. If we heat one end of the iron rod, then, another end of the rod will also get subsequently heated. Moreover, the molecules of the air are not close enough so that they can transfer heat. Hence, we can say that air is not a good conductor of heat. In other words, we can say that air is a bad conductor of heat.
Hence, the statement “Air is a good conductor of heat” is False.
So,option B is correct.
Note: Heat can be transferred from one point to another through three different processes namely conduction, convection and radiation. Good conductor of heat is the material that allows heat to flow through it without any (minimum) resistance.
