On 3rd August 1749, the allied force of Joseph Francois Dupleix, Muzaffar Jung and Chanda Sahib met with the army of Anwaruddin Muhammed Khan at Ambur. The disciplined French infantry force led by De Bussy, in no time totally reversed the course of the battle against the Nawab. While commanding his forces from a howdah, Nawab Anwaruddin Muhammed Khan was shot and killed in a fierce confrontation. On the next day, Chanda Sahib and Muzaffar Jang entered Arcot victoriously, and Chanda Sahib became the next Nawab of the Carnatic. Muhammed Ali Khan Wallajah, Anwaruddin Muhammed Khan's son, fled south to Trichinopoly. There he hid for years and sought the assistance of the British.
