Your science teacher wants you to prepare a plan for a formative assessment activity, “How to save water, the vital natural resource.” Write any two ways that you will suggest to bring awareness in your neighborhood, on ‘how to save water’.

Hint: It is the most precious natural resource that has varying importance in our lives. It underlies the Earth's surface almost everywhere, mountains, plains, beneath hills, and deserts. It isn't generally open, or new enough for use without treatment, and it's occasionally hard to find or to measure and describe.

Complete answer:
a) It is a very important natural resource that is required for every activity. And it is known as the elixir of life due to its importance in the life of the living organisms. The sources of water are depleting and so there is a need to save the reserves.
The water can be saved by:
- For watering the plants, use the water used for washing vegetables
- Don’t waste more water during bathing, flushing, etc.
- Harvesting and conserving water. - We can use wastewater for gardening, cleaning vehicles, etc.
b) One of the common methods for preventing the groundwater level to go down further is through afforestation. The planting of the new trees will permit the soil to be held firmly by the underlying roots of the plants. This will stop soil erosion and surface run- off of the water. The water will leak gradually into the ground and help in keeping up the water level.
To save our water table we can utilize three R's
Reduce: Reducing the utilization of water and reducing its wastage. Reuse: Reusing similar water again for instance water utilized for washing clothes can be utilized for cleaning purposes. Recycle: An industry can recycle their wastewater and utilize water again for various purposes.

Note: Water our garden with a watering can as opposed to a hosepipe. A hosepipe can use as much as 1,000 liters of water in 60 minutes. Mulching your plants (with bark chippings, heavy fertilizer, or straw) and watering in the early morning and late afternoon will decrease evaporation and furthermore save water.
