Hint: We can determine whether a substance is acidic, basic or neutral with the help of pH paper, litmus paper, Phenolphthalein and methyl orange in this each test they will show different colors. Few restrictions in Phenolphthalein and methyl orange indicators.
Complete step by step answer:
The restaurant owner can decide by using an indicator like litmus paper. If the sample of drink turns red litmus blue, it is basic. If it turns blue litmus red, it is acidic. If the color of litmus does not change then it is neutral
Additional information:
The restaurant owner can decide by using an indicator like Phenolphthalein drop. If the sample of drink remains colorless then the drink is acidic in nature .If the sample of drink turns to pink then it is basic
We will get a neutral solution also colorless with the help of phenolphthalein so in this question we are not going with phenolphthalein drop. So in this case we cannot distinguish between neutral and acid.
The restaurant owner can decide by using an indicator like methyl orange drop. If the sample of drink remains red then the drink is acidic in nature .If the sample of drink turns to yellow then it is basic
We will get a neutral solution also yellow with the help of methyl orange drop so in this question we are not going with methyl orange drop. So in this case we cannot distinguish between neutral and base.
Note:
With the help of pH values we can determine whether they are acidic or basic
If the pH value is 7 then it is neutral
If the pH value is < 7 then it is acidic in nature
If the pH value is > 7 then it is basic in nature
