Water shortage was a serious problem in this village.In1972, the village Hiware Bazar experienced mass exodus during the serious drought. In 1990, Popatrao Baguji Pawar was the only postgraduate in the village returned to his village after completing his M.Com from pune who contested for the post gram panchayat and tried to build a career in local politics. He formulated a five year development plan which included a ban on felling trees (kurhad bandi) ,a ban on free grazing ( charai bandi) , ban on liquor (nasha bandi) and family planning. He managed to get loans for farmers and initiated rainwater harvesting, water conservation and management programs.
Inorder to increase food production, the villagers implemented a drip-irrigation system to conserve water and soil. Crops like sugarcane and Bananas were avoided to cultivate as they required huge amounts of water.Digging trenches to trap water , afforestation and building of percolation tanks were included. These initiatives improved the socio-economic conditions in the village.
