Back in the days, whenever we had to leave our family for a long trip across the world for a long period of time, we usually stuck to the process of writing letters to our loved ones. Likewise, students will go through a similar letter of sorts in this Hindi class. In Chitthiyon Mein Europe Class 8, students will read a letter written by a person who expresses his experiences during his time in Europe, to his family back home in India.
In this chapter Europe in Letters summary of lessons, we come to know - through the letter - that it has only been a week ever since the writer landed in Europe. He describes the eating, living, and cultural conditions of the place, stating that spring will be arriving soon. He goes on to discuss the food habits, comparing the European food style to that of the Indian cuisine, mentioning that he had yoghurt for breakfast, followed by soup that was served in a huge cup usually fit for ice cream, after which ice cream has to be consumed.
This process has to be repeated everyday and the writer says that he is beginning to grow sick and tired of eating the same food item everyday, saying that rice is eaten along with stew and that the vermicelli remains inside the soup, boiling in water. During the last few sentences of the letter, he proceeds to write down the geographical descriptions of the place, saying that in Europe, there is a river named Duna and a place named Navisad (probably the place where the author resides) and he takes regular trips to the market where the children playing football there remind him of his kids back home in India.
He also says that there are huge ships in the river and big buildings close to and surrounding the marketplace, occupied by several Indians who had settled in Europe decades ago and now they even look and talk like them, seeming to be more European than Indian. The author ends the letter by saying that he has decided to visit a poultry farm outside the city the following day and asks his family members to stay healthy and kids to behave so that they don’t trouble their mom (assumed to be the author’s wife) much and that he will write a letter again to them in the near future.
Like the one given above, many other variations of the Chitthiyon Mein Europe lesson summary can be found too for the benefit of both the students and teachers. The lesson exercises and worksheets of Europe Somdutt in Letters will also help students during their study sessions.
