‘Shekhibaaz Makkhi ’ is the second chapter in the NCERT Hindi textbooks for Class 3 students. It is a story which is about arrogance and how anger hurts you the most. It has four characters. They are Lion, Housefly, fox, and spider. The story starts with a scene where The lion was trying to sleep. The housefly flies around the lion’s ear to disturb him and make him angry. When The housefly sits on the lion's ear, the lion tries to hit the fly with his paw but ends up hurting himself. Then the fly sits on the lion’s nose and again he hits himself. After repeated failures, the lion apologizes to the housefly. The housefly feels very proud of itself and starts roaming around to gain respect from everyone. It also makes the elephant bow to her by winning in an argument. A fox sees all this fills the fly with more pride but also tells her that the spider is speaking ill of her. The housefly decides to teach the spider a lesson but gets locked up in the spider’s web.
