Overview of RS Aggarwal Solutions Class 10 Chapter 4 - Triangles (Ex 4B) Exercise 4.2

‘Triangles’ is the fourth chapter of RS Aggarwal Maths Class 10 in which students learn about all the properties and classifications of a triangle. A 3-sided polygon that has three sides and three angles are known as a triangle. The sum of all the three angles of a triangle is equal to 180°. Some common examples of triangles around us are a slice of pizza, a sandwich, pyramids, etc.

Topics of RS Aggarwal Class 10 Chapter 4- Triangles

  1. Introduction

  2. Similar Figures

  3. Similarity of Triangles

  4. Criteria for Similarity of triangles

  5. Areas of Similar Triangles

  6. Pythagoras Theorem

  7. Summary

Properties of Triangles

  1. There are three sides, three vertices, and three angles in a triangle.

  2. The angle sum property of the triangle states that the sum of all the interior angles in a triangle is 180°.

  3. The side of the triangle that is opposite to the largest angle is the largest.

  4. The sum of the length of any two sides of the triangle is greater than the length of the third side of the triangle.

  5. The exterior angle property of the triangle states that the sum of any exterior angle of the triangle is equal to the sum of the interior opposite sides.

Classification of Triangles

Triangles can be classified in two ways-

  • Based on its sides

  • Based on its angles

Classifying Triangles Based on their Sides

  1. Scalene Triangle- The triangles in which all the sides are not equal are known as scalene triangles.

  2. Isosceles Triangle- The triangles in which only two sides are equal are known as isosceles triangles.

  3. Equilateral Triangle- The triangles in which all the three sides are equal are known as equilateral triangles.

Classifying Triangles based on their angles

  1. Acute Triangle- An acute triangle is the one in which all the three angles are less than 90°. It is also known as an acute-angled triangle.

  2. Obtuse Triangle- An obtuse triangle is the one in which one angle is more than 90° but less than 180°. It is also known as an obtuse-angled triangle.

  3. Right Triangle- A right triangle is the one in which one angle is the right angle which means 90°. It is also known as the right-angled triangle.

FAQs on RS Aggarwal Solutions Class 10 Chapter 4 - Triangles (Ex 4B) Exercise 4.2

1. Which is the most important theorem in the Chapter Triangles Class 10?

The most important theorem of Triangles in Class 10 is Pythagoras Theorem. According to the Pythagoras theorem,” The area of the square whose side is the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the areas of the squares on the other two sides.”

\[c^{2}=a^{2}+b^{2}\]

Where a and b are the other sides of the triangle and c is the hypotenuse.

For the theorem, students can refer to the Pythagoras Theorem provided by Vedantu. Vedantu has also provided geometrical proof of the theorem, its examples, and applications.

2. What are the formulas used to find the areas of triangles?

  • The area of a triangle formula, \[\text{Area}=\frac{1}{2}\times \text{Base} \times \text{Perpendicular Height}\]

  • The area of a right angled-triangle\[\text{Area of Right Triangle}=\frac{1}{2}\times \text{Base} \times \text{Height}\]

  • The area of an equilateral triangle

         \[\text{Area of Equilateral Triangle}=\frac{\sqrt{3}}{4}\times side^{2}\]

  • Area of an isosceles triangle, \[\text{Area of Isosceles Triangle}=\frac{1}{4}b\sqrt{4a^{2}-b^{2}}\]

Where a is the measure of one of the equal sides and b is the base.

3. What are the important questions for Class 10 Triangles?

The Chapter Triangles is a very important chapter in Class 10 therefore the students need to learn about all the characteristics and classifications of triangles first before solving the questions. Students should memorize all the important formulas along with the Pythagoras theorem in the Chapter Triangles. Vedantu has provided some important questions for CBSE Class 10 of Chapter 6 Triangles, which the students can refer to after they solve all the problems given in the textbooks.
