RD Sharma Class 11 Solutions Chapter 32

RD Sharma Class 11 Chapter 32 explains the concept of Statistics and its components which include range, mean deviation for both grouped and ungrouped data, variance and standard deviation and other such related topics. Miscellaneous examples have also been discussed with the help of different formulas to find the data. We have also discussed the types of questions which are important for the students from the exam point of view as well as the different methods to find the solution of grouped and ungrouped data.

Statistics is the analysis and interpretation of data collected for several purposes. The data is in a tabular form and in order to calculate the central value of the table, we use various formulas which look complicated but are very important for bringing out the central tendency of the data, i.e., use mean, median and mode. Four measures of scattered data or dispersion have been discussed in this chapter- range, quartile deviation, mean deviation and standard deviation.

  • Range is the difference between the maximum value of the data and the minimum value. For example, if the maximum number of books sold by a store on day 1 is 25 and the least number of books on day 7 is 10, then then range= maximum value - minimum value, i.e., 25-10= 15

  • Mean Deviation is the difference between the observed value and the expected value of a variable,i.e., the distance from the central point. The formula is mean deviation= sum of deviations/number of observations.

  •  Variance is when the average squared deviations from the mean are calculated where as for the Standard Deviation, we calculate the square root of the variance.

There is a huge list of complex-looking formulas which have been discussed in detail within this chapter. Students must practice the questions and study the examples before practicing the new unsolved sums. They need to understand the concept and make use of the methods/shortcuts as mentioned in the lesson.

FAQs on RD Sharma Class 11 Solutions Chapter 32 - Statistics (Ex 32.3) Exercise 32.3

1. How do we learn so many formulas in RD Sharma Class 11 Chapter 32 Statistics?

The formulas in statistics seem very complex and hard to learn at first. But once a student understands the roots of the concept, it will fall right on track! One of the best ways of learning the formula is to understand the derivation of the formula. Then, analyse the ‘why’, ‘how’ and ‘when’ of the concept, study and follow the examples and observe the shortcuts used for different numericals. Once the concept is clear, start practicing the new questions. For more such strategies, follow Vedantu for more.

2. Where do we get the best sample papers for RD Sharma Class 11 Chapter 32 Statistics?

For Maths, solving previous years’ question papers and sample papers holds great importance as practice makes the process of learning and revision better and stronger. There are several portals online and offline that provide such study resources for students to practice and evaluate their performance to score well in the exam. Students can follow vedantu, for similar sample papers based on the latest syllabus, on R D Sharma class 11 solutions chapter 32 statistics and download study materials in PDF format for free.

3. Why is statistics important in Maths?

Statistics, which is a specific discipline deeply associated with Applied Maths with limited scope, is used to rationalize,  analyze and calculate the grouped and ungrouped data like weather forecasts, population, predictions, etc. It is mainly to conduct research and evaluate data whose outcome can only be calculated through formulas. Interpretation and organization of data which mainly uses probability theories and other mathematical concepts like linear algebra and analysis.  Hence, statistics in Maths and economics are totally different from one another.

4. Are Previous Years’ Question papers important for RD Sharma class 11 chapter 32 Statistics?

Previous Year’s Questions papers are very important for the students to understand the pattern of the paper and to evaluate the weightage of the topics. Students have to practice the papers regularly so that they can check their own progress through revision. This will also help them gain a better grip over the topics as per the syllabus and make them aware about their areas of strength and weakness as well as the scope of improvement. Students can download the previous years’ question papers in Vedantu for free in PDF format.

5. What type of questions are given in RD Sharma Class 11 Solutions Chapter 32 - Statistics (Ex 32.3) Exercise 32.3 ?

RD Sharma contains the best questions as well as well-explained examples which will help a student learn different methods and shortcuts to solve problems. In this chapter, there are a total of six exercises along with objective questions including short answer type questions. Exercise 32.3 deals with questions on the calculation of mean deviation and median using different formulas. There are eight table based questions containing both grouped and ungrouped data. Students can easily solve these questions for better scores in the exam.
