## Direct and Indirect Proportions: Introduction

Direct and Indirect Proportions is a chapter of class 8 mathematics that educates children about the direct and indirect proportional relationship between quantities. The basic concept is tested as an application-based question. To solve these problems, a student must have clear fundamentals.

‘ is used in mathematical terms as the proportionality symbol. For example, if the given condition with two quantities a & b states that a is proportional to b, then it will be represented as “a ∝ b”. If a is Inversely proportional to b, it will be denoted as ‘a∝1/b’

Direct and Inverse proportions are used to determine how the quantities and amounts are correlated with each other. If increasing one quantity increases the other, then the relation is Directly proportional. If increasing one quantity leads the other quantity to decrease, then the correlation between them is called Inverse proportion.

Class 8 children can refer to books like RS Aggarwal for solving good questions. A lot of FREE resources can be also found on Vedantu’s Official website and Youtube channel from where the child can benefit.  This helps students grasp the concepts better and do well in exams.

Direct and Indirect Proportions are high-scoring topics and students can score full marks with adequate practice.

## FAQs on RS Aggarwal Solutions Class 8 Chapter-12 Direct and Inverse Proportions Exercise 12.2

2. What is the main differentiation between direct and indirect proportions?

Direct Proportion occurs when one of the given quantities increases and the other quantity also increases. If one of the given quantities increases and the other decreases, the relation is called an Inverse proportion. This is the main difference between Direct and Indirect Proportions. Class 8 students can learn more about Direct and Inverse proportion at Vedantu's official website, where they can find notes and also solutions to RD Sharma and RS Aggarwal of Chapter Direct and Indirect proportions. They can also solve the Important Questions carefully selected by Vedantu's hard-working teachers.

3. Which all books should a Class 8 student use to study maths?

Class 8 students should focus and give more time to solving questions. They should start with solving all NCERT exercises and then move on to RS Aggarwal where they’ll find a good amount of practice questions. If there’s time, Class 8 students can also study from RD Sharma as it has many questions that will help you clear your fundamentals and assist in solving more complex problems. Time plays an important role in studying Class 8 maths. The sooner the students start, the more they can be prepared to score good marks in examinations.

4. When are 2 quantities a and b said to be in direct proportion?

Any 2 quantities, a and b,  are in direct proportion if the ratio of their corresponding values remains constant which means if 'a' increases, 'b' will also increase, and same if 'a' decreases, 'b' will also decrease.  This can be represented as a/ b = k, (where k is a positive number and the quantities a and b are said to change direction). Class 8 students can learn more Direct and Inverse proportions at Vedantu's official website. They can also check out RS Aggarwal for solving good questions.
