Importance of the RS Aggarwal Solutions for Class 6 Chapter-5 Fractions

‘Fractions’ is Chapter 5 of Class 6 Mathematics. In this chapter, students will go through all the topics and exercises related to fractions. A fraction is a kind of a number representing a part of a whole. The whole is considered as a single object or a group of objects. Alternatively, it can be said that a fraction is an operation on a whole part. A fraction means a part of an object or of a group or of a region. In RS Aggarwal Solutions for Class 6 Chapter 5 exercise 5.3, the fraction is defined in detail, like take a number like 24, it is a whole number, but if it gets divided like two-four it becomes a fraction. Students will understand the solutions with an example like take a fraction as ¾. In this case, 4 stands for the whole number or whole equal parts and this whole has been divided and 3 stands for the number of equal parts which have been taken out. It is to be described that while expressing any case of counting parts to write a fraction, all parts must be equal. Here, it can be seen like 3 is called the numerator and 4 is called the denominator. Numerator and denominator can be identified and can be defined for any fraction. Fraction values can also be represented on a number line. Any fraction has a point associated with it then it can be easily scaled on the number line. A fraction is a number that is described in the form of a/b, such that b is not equal to zero or one. A fraction consists of two parts. The number on the top is called a numerator and the number below is called a denominator. The numerator can be greater or smaller than the denominator according to the type of fraction. RS Aggarwal helps students in better understanding of concepts and provide solutions in a very understandable form. In exercise 5.3 of chapter 5 class 6 RS Aggarwal solutions, the concepts students will learn are the introduction of fractions, types of fraction, and how to perform the fractions.

Operations of Fractions

1. Addition of Fractions

  • 2/3 + 5/3 = (2+5)/3 = 7/3

Add the numerator directly as the denominator is the same.

  • 1/3 + 2/4 = (4+6)/12 = 10/12 = 5/6

First take the LCM of the denominator because values are different then divide the denominator by LCM and multiply it to the numerator and then add numerator values.

2. Subtraction of Fractions

  • 5/3 - 1/3 = (5-1)/3 = 743

Subtract the numerator directly as the denominator is the same.

  • 5/3 - 3/4 = (20-9)/12 = 11/12

First take the LCM of the denominator because values are different then divide the denominator by LCM and multiply it to the numerator and then subtract the numerator values.

3. Multiplication of Fractions

  • 1/2 * 4/3 = (3*8)/6 = 24/6 = 4

First take the LCM of the denominator because values are different then divide the denominator by LCM and multiply it to the numerator and then multiply the numerator values.

4. Division of Fractions

  • 4/3 ÷ 3/2 = 4/3 × Reciprocal of (3/2) = 4/3×2/3 = 8/9

First take the reciprocal of the second fraction then multiply the numerator values because the denominator value becomes equal.

Types of Fraction

According to RS Aggarwal solutions Chapter 5 Exercise 5.3, Fractions are of five types:

1. Proper Fractions – Proper fractions are the type of fraction where the denominator is always greater than the numerator. Some examples are 4/5, 3/7.

2. Improper Fractions – Improper fractions are the type of fraction where the denominator is always less than the numerator. Some examples are 5/4, 7/3.

3. Mixed Fractions – Mixed fractions are the type of fraction which consists of a whole number and a proper fraction. Some examples are 16 37, 3 45.

4. Like Fractions – Like fractions are the type of fractions which have the same denominators are called, like fractions. Some examples are 1/15, 3/15.

5. Unlike Fractions – Unlike fractions are the type of fractions which have different denominators are called, unlike fractions. Some examples are 6/27, 6/28.
