Hint:The observation we see here is pretty straight forward as everyone knows what happens while we dip a small stone into water. The conclusion lies on what we do after the observations we get from the experiment.
Complete answer:
We all know what happens when we drop a stone into a glass filled with water. For that let us take another example of what happens when we drop a stone too well. Well nothing observational does not happen, only the sound and some ripples are formed around it. This is a case of a large scenario. Now let us consider this case in glass filled with water and to this we are dropping a stone gently. The observation is simple: what happens is the water overflows. Now to get an idea about what’s happening let us keep a small bowl on the bottom of the glass so that the water which overflows glass is stored in that bowl. Now keep taking the stone from the bowl so that the water level comes down since some water has overflowed into the bowl. This collected water in a bowl is refilled in the glass we observe that the glass is filled again. It has the same water level before we dropped the stone. This is because when we dropped the stone it occupied some space therefore the water got overflowed.
The conclusion we get from this experiment is that not only solids but liquid also occupy space.
Note:
There is also another observation we can see in this experiment is that the stones dropped onto the water get to the bottom of the glass i.e., they sink because the density of water is less than the density of rock.
