Hint: Microwave is the wave present in electromagnetic waves. Electromagnetic waves have a range of frequencies in it. It lies within infrared and radio waves. A very well known example is the micro oven which we use in our home to cook food.
Complete step by step solution:
First, let's understand what the microwave is.
In electromagnetic rays, a microwave is present having frequency range 300MHz and 300GHz in the electromagnetic spectrum. Radio waves are larger than microwaves.
Like light, it travels in a straight line and it does not affect much by the troposphere which is a layer of earth. Like light, it does not require a medium to travel. It can be reflected from metal. Some nonmetals are transparent to these waves like glass, etc.
For wireless transmission of signal, microwaves are best because they have large bandwidth. Therefore it is commonly used in satellite communication, radar signal even in a phone, etc.
We all know what a microwave is. Nowadays most of the shops use the microwave to prepare food or to make food hot. So for preparation of food microwaves are used. We called it an oven too. This wave tries to make particles rotate in food by which particles produce thermal energy and food gets warm.
Electron tubes inside the microwave produce microwaves called a magnetron. It gets reflected inside the oven therefore it is absorbed by food. These waves make liquid molecules to vibrate which is present in food and produce heat.
Note: Microwave is simple and knows the application of microwave. It simply works on thermal energy generated by waves in food or particles. It is not so harmful. But the frequency range is high. If you can remember the frequency of the microwave, then memorize that its frequency lies between radio waves and infrared waves.
