Hint: Metallic elements show commonly metallic behavior of high tensile strength, malleability, ductility, electrical and thermal conductivity. Metals are good at conducting heat, it can transfer heat very quickly and evenly.it can conduct electricity. The substances that exhibit this property of malleability are often metals. Metals which are malleable in nature, also exhibit the property of ductility,
Complete step by step answer:
The substances that exhibit this property of malleability are often metals. Metals which are malleable in nature, also exhibit the property of ductility, which means the ability of the material to be drawn into thin wires.
The definition of ductility is, ductility is a property by which a substance can be drawn into thin wire.
All metals are very strong, durable, and shiny substances used for making automobiles, cooking utensils, satellites, etc. few other properties of metals are they are malleable (can be beaten into thin sheets), ductile (can be drawn into wires), and sonorous.
Additional information:
The property of malleability is often observed in the elements present in groups from 1 to 12 in the periodic table. Some examples of malleable metals are gold, iron, silver, etc.
While metals show the property of being malleable, non – metals do not exhibit this property. If a non – metallic substance is made to undergo compressive stress or is hammered, it will break into pieces. Malleable metals can twist and bend in different shapes, while non - metals cannot simply do that. Non – metals are usually brittle in nature, and hence cannot withstand external forces.
Note: The materials which tend to be a good conductor have freely moving electrons in excess. To prove that metals are good conductors of heat, we can experiment. Even though malleability is a common characteristic feature of metals, it is not exhibited by all metals. Certain metals like zinc, arsenic, mercury, and antimony are non – malleable in nature.
