Hint:The state of Tamil Nadu is located at the extreme south of the Indian subcontinent. It is the eleventh largest state in India.

Complete answer:
Tamil Nadu covers an area of fifty thousand square miles. It has Kerala on the west, Karnataka to the North west and Andhra Pradesh to the North. Puduccheri and Bay of Bengal lie on the East of the state. The southernmost tip of India, Kanyakumari is also in Tamil Nadu. It has a coastline of nine hundred and ten kilometers, the country's third largest coastline.

The western, southern and the north western parts are hilly. They are also very rich in vegetation. The Western Ghats and the Eastern Ghats and those parts meet at the Nilgiri hills. The Western Ghats dominate the entire western border with Kerala. This effectively blocks many of the rain bearing clouds of the south west monsoon from entering the state. The eastern parts consist of fertile coastal plains and the northern parts include a mix of hills and plains. The central and the south central regions are arid plains which receive less rainfall as compared to the other regions.

Tamil Nadu's coastline witnessed an Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004 which caused seven thousand and seven hundred and ninety three direct deaths in the state. It falls in the region of low seismic hazards with the exception of western border areas.
The climate of the state can range from dry sub-humid to semi-arid. Palakkad gap permits south-west monsoon winds to pass through the western ghats, thus producing rain in western Tamil Nadu.

Note:Parts of moderate hazard zones of Tamil Nadu have experienced seismic activity on a scale of M5.0. The state of Tamil Nadu also has thirty seven districts.
