Aurangabad
Location- Aurangabad is a city situated in the hilly plateaus of Maharashtra and is also the fourth most populous area in Maharashtra. It is located at a distance of 367.7 km from Mumbai and 477.7 km from Nagpur.
How to reach there- Numerous bus and train services are available from Mumbai and Navi Mumbai to the main city of Aurangabad. Similarly, there are bus and train services available from Nagpur also.
Where to stay- There are several low-cost and affordable hotels and guest houses in the main city as well as close to the Ajanta and Ellora caves. One can also find some five-star hotels in the heart of the city.
What to see- The Bibi ka Maqbara, located in the heart of the city, is also known as the Taj of the Deccan as it resembles the Taj Mahal. It was built by Azam Shah, son of Aurangzeb, in memory of his wife. The Ajanta caves, which are slightly in the outskirts of the main city, are a depiction of the Buddhist culture of the 2nd century BCE. It depicts stories of Buddhist monks through sculptures and paintings. It has received the UNESCO World Heritage tag. In contrast, the Ellora caves depict ancient cultures of multiple religions. It has also been tagged as a UNESCO World Heritage site. If one walks one kilometer, the 18th century Grishneshwar temple is located there. It is one of the five Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
