Hint: From the question we are asked that generally why is area squared? For explaining or solving these theory questions we will use the definition of area and explain why the area should always be squared and also we will use some examples and make our solution a much easier to understand. So, we will proceed with our solution as follows.

Complete step by step answer:
Generally, the area of any two dimensional \[(2D)\] mathematical figure is the amount of space inside the two dimensional shape.
If you think about the floor of our bedroom, then the area would be the maximum amount of floor you could throw your stuff on before you could not see any floor remaining.
Area is always expressed as square units. This is because it is two dimensional in length and height.
For example if we take the mathematical figure square it has two parameters that is length and height. So, the area of the square will be length multiplied to height.

\[\Rightarrow area\text{ of square=length}\times \text{height}\]
Here we can know that for both the length and height the S.I units are meters. So, the S,I unit for the area would be meter multiplied with meter that is meter square.
\[\Rightarrow S.I\text{ of square=}{{\text{m}}^{2}}\]
We know that area is calculated generally for two dimensional figures. For all two dimensional figures the parameters will be length and height. So, the S.I unit for the area will be square units.
Therefore, the area is squared.

Note: students must have good knowledge in the concept of areas and perimeters. We should know that generally the area is for \[(2D)\] figures and for \[(3D)\] figures we calculate the volume and it will be of cubic units.
