Born in Ayodhya in Vasant Sud in 1795, Ramanand Swami became the son of Ajay prasad and Sumtidevi.
At the age of eight, he got a holy thread ceremony and learned Vedas for up to eight years.
He learned all the scriptures in Saurashtra from Kashiram Shastri of Talaja. It was full of Dharma, Gyan and Vairagya from a young age. He was originally a Ramanuja follower.
He later established his sect and in Banaras and Agra, preached his beliefs in Hindi.He was a Rama worshipper. To spread his theories, he was the first to use the vernacular medium.
His two important contributions to the Bhakti movement were the simplification of worship and the liberation of people from the conventional caste laws. He rejected the caste system and recruited his followers from all parts of society that ignored caste.
Ramanand Swami is the Guru of Lord Swaminarayan.
