Mineral oils are produced from refined hydrocarbons. The refined hydrocarbons are obtained from crude oil through the process of distillation. In other words, it is obtained from the sedimentary rocks of the earth. Sedimentary rocks are those rocks which have been formed of sediments deposited by weathering and erosion of other rocks. Minerals oil consists of 90-95 percent of hydrocarbons and 5-10 percent of organic compounds such as oxygen, sulphur, nitro and some traces of organometallic compounds. Mineral oil is usually applied as hydrodynamic lubricants and also as a carrier of additives promoting solid-firm lubrication.

Note: Mineral oil is mostly used in a variety of cosmetics and personal care products, is a clear, odourless liquid.
