
Which side of the heart (left or right) contains the oxygenated blood?

Hint: Four chambers are present in the human heart. Out of which the upper two chambers are named as atria whereas the lower two chambers of the heart are named as ventricles. The two atria present in the heart are the right atrium and left atrium. The function of both the atria is to receive as well as to collect the blood.

Structure of the heart: -
In the human heart, four inner chambers are found and all of them are responsible for the circulation of blood.

Blood is usually pumped to the ventricle from the atrium on each side of the heart whether it is right or left.
Human heart also includes various valves such as a pulmonary valve, tricuspid valve, Aortic valve and mitral valve that are responsible for flowing the blood in a proper direction via the heart.
Heart circulation:-
Lungs transport oxygenated blood through the pulmonary veins into the left atrium of the heart i.e it receives blood which is rich in oxygen.
Blood is pumped from the left atrium by the left ventricle with the help of the mitral valve. The left ventricle pumps the oxygen-rich blood out in the body organs through the aorta.
Blood is again transported into the right atrium of the heart which is circulated in the body organs through the inferior vena cava. But this time, the blood is low in oxygen i.e deoxygenated blood.
Blood is pumped from the right atrium by the right ventricle with the help of the tricuspid valve. The right ventricle pumps the deoxygenated blood back into the lungs for maxing the oxygenated blood by removing carbon dioxide.
Hence, the oxygenated blood is contained on the left side of the heart by the left atrium through the pulmonary vein.

Students might get confused between either the side of the chamber i.e right or left which receives the oxygenated blood from the lungs or they even get confused between the chamber i.e left atrium or left ventricle which receive the oxygenated blood through the pulmonary vein and which chamber pumps out the blood into the body organs or tissues.
