Complete solution:
Damodar river which flows through the regions of Jharkhand and West Bengal is known as the sorrow of West Bengal. It is named so due to recurring floods in the region caused by the flow of the River. It has rich mineral resources near it thus it attracts mining and other industries in the region. In the year 2003, it was considered one of the most polluted rivers in the country. The Damodar river had its source in Chulha pani, Latehar, in the Chota Nagpur Plateau region in Jharkhand. The length of the river is 590 km approx. The river has many tributaries and sub tributaries which are divided into the right tributaries and the left tributaries. The left tributaries of Damodar River are Barakar, Jamunia, Nunia, and Konar whereas the left tributary is Sali which flows through the West Bengal region. There are many human settlements in Damodar valley as it is rich in minerals resources, especially coal. It is one of the most industrialized parts of our country as there are three integrated steel plants situated in the region.

Note:
The name Damodar has religious significance in Hinduism as it was the name of Lord Krishna. The name Damodar means rope tied on the belly.
