Hint: The abdomen of a male cockroach is slender in structure and its last segment is pointed whereas in female cockroach the abdomen is blunt and boat-shaped. The body of the male cockroach is smaller than the female.

Complete answer: The 9th sternum of the abdomen in male cockroaches, comprises of a pair of minor, unjointed anal styles and the 10th segment consists of elongated, anal cerci, and the sternum of mesothorax is not split. A pair of anal cerci are present in female cockroaches and have the presence of bifurcated sternum. Male cockroaches have two pairs of wings however, in females wings are vague or they have vestigial wings.

Additional information: The cockroaches are the earliest group, going back at least as far as the Carboniferous period, some 320 million years ago.
Those early ancestors however have inadequate the internal ovipositors of modern roaches.
Cockroaches are somewhat insects without special adaptations such as sucking mouthparts of aphids and other true bugs; they have chewing mouthparts and are among the most primitive of living Neopteran insects.

Note: The females are shorter than the males, as male cockroaches are elongated because their wings extend 4 to 8 mm beyond the tip of the abdomen. In female cockroaches the anal cerci have 13 to 14 segments, on the other hand, males have 18 to 19 segments in their anal cerci.
