Hint:The air pollutants tend to cause air pollution. The air pollutants are those substances which are harmful in nature and are present in the atmosphere which causes damage to the ecological system. The different types of air pollutants are gases, biological molecules and particles. The examples of air pollutants are ozone, ammonia and chlorofluorocarbons.

Complete answer:
The gas which is an air pollutant is carbon monoxide. The Chemical formula for carbon monoxide is CO. This is odourless and a tasteless gas which has no colour and is toxic in nature. Due to its toxicity it is considered as an air pollutant. It is evolved during the incomplete burning of hydrocarbons and fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas. The biggest source from which a high amount of carbon monoxide is released is vehicles. Due to the emission of this gas the effect such as global warming and greenhouse effect occurs.
While other gases present in the option are incorrect because, such as nitrogen is essential in the atmosphere for the survival of human beings as it helps in the continuation of nitrogen cycle anf fixation of nitrogen. Carbon dioxide is also an essential gas because it helps plants to make their food by photosynthesis, oxygen is also an essential gas as it helps in the survival of human beings. By inhaling oxygen only we can survive and our body can do its proper functioning.

Hence, the correct option is (C) .

Note:the air pollutants increase the air pollution and also affect aquatic life. One should control air pollution by replacing petrol and diesel by CNG or compressed natural gas. People should avoid private vehicles for short distances and should walk. Industry pollutants should be treated at the source to reduce pollution.
