Hint: William of Orange was a very important European figure of the 17th century and is noted for having fought France, the dominant power in Europe.

Complete answer: William Ⅲ was born on 4th November 1650.A Dutchman by birth, part of the House of Orange he later emerged as the king of England. He was the only child of William Ⅱ, Prince of Orange. A protestant by belief, William waged several wars against the powerful Catholic king by joining forces with protestants and Catholic powers in Europe. Many protestants heralded him as a champion of the faith. In 1865 his uncle James became the king of England, Scotland and Ireland. James reign was unpopular with the protestant majority because they were afraid of the revival of catholicism. Supported by a group of powerful British political and religious leaders, William invaded England in what was known as the Glorious Revolution. In 1688, he posted at the port of Brixham. William’s reputation as a protestant helped him to take power. During the early years of his reign, he was occupied with the Nine Years War (1688-1697) leaving his wife to govern alone where she died in 1694. In 1696 Jacobites planned William’s execution which was unsuccessful. His lack of children threatened the Protestant succession. After his death in 1702, he was succeeded in Britain by Anne and as titular Prince of Orange by his cousin John William Friso.
Thus, option D is the correct answer.

Note: William and his wife Mary were crowned as monarchs of England, Scotland and Ireland in 1689. Their Glorious Revolution marked an important beginning towards parliamentary rule.
