Hint: Crust, mantle and core are the three sections of the earth. They can be further divided into inner and outer. Temperature and pressure increases the more we go towards the core.
Complete Answer:Mantle is the widest section of the earth and it is estimated to be around 2900 km thick. Magma is the basic building block of the mantle. Semi molten rocks are called magma. In the upper part the mantle is hard but as we go lower then it begins to soften and also melt.
Mantle is also referred to as Si Ma because the two most abundant elements present in the mantle are Silicon and Magnesium. This layer consists of hot and dense rock which flows like asphalt. The huge temperature difference between the top and bottom mantle is the reason for this flow, the upper part of the mantle has temperature of around 1600 degree F whereas the lower part has around 4000 degree F.
The movement of the mantle is the reason behind the movement of the plates of earth.
Option A - Crust - It is the outermost layer and its thickness is around 60 km.
Option C - Inner Core - It is the hottest layer of the earth which is located at the centre. Its temperature reaches upto 5500 degrees C.
Option D - Outer Core - It is very hot and therefore the metals inside are in liquid state. It is approximately 1400 miles thick.
Therefore the correct answer is option B.
Note: It is believed, by geologists, that as earth was cooling the heavier and denser material sank into the centre while the lighter ones rose towards the top. Due to this reason the lightest materials are present in the outermost layer.
