The first woman Chief Minister of India was Sucheta Kripalani. She served the Uttar Pradesh government. She was born on 25 June 1908 and died on 1st December 1974. She was also an Indian freedom fighter. She was the first woman Chief Minister of state of Uttar Pradesh and was elected from the Kanpur Constituency. She was also the part of the subcommittee who was responsible for drafting the Indian Constitution. She was the part of the subcommittee that laid down the charter for the constitution of India. She had joined the party founded by her husband the year before she contested. The Congress candidate Manmohini Sahgal was defeated by her. After five years, she was re-elected from the same constituency. But this time she was elected as the Congress candidate. Last time she was elected in the Lok Sabha in 1967, from Gonda Constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
