Knitting is a method of forming fabric with the help of a single strand of yarn, using two needles. The resulting fabric has more give than woven fabric.
When you take a look closely at knitted fabric you can see that it is made up of rows of loops that interlock with neighbouring rows that interlocking gives the fabric its stretch.
Using this method we can give shape to the fabric for the intended purpose. It is different from woven fabric which is flat and must be cut to shape.
There are advanced techniques in which multiple needles are used, or a pair of needles attached by a cord, that makes the tubes to be knitted. And textural and multicoloured effects can be given by using multiple strands of yarn
Generally, There are two major types of knitting that are weft knitting and warp knitting.
Generally, in the weft knitting, the wales are just perpendicular to the course of the yarn, a typical piece of knitted fabric may have hundreds of wales and warp knitting is mostly done by machine, whereas weft knitting is done by both hand and machine
