Hint: Here in the question they are asking about the events that occur during telophase. Telophase is a sub-stage that is present in the cell cycle. It is a sub-stage that falls under the category of mitosis. Mitosis has several phases and telophase is the last sub-phase of mitotic cellular division.
Complete answer:
Cell cycle is the series of events which a cell undergoes during its division. There are two main phases of cell cycle which are interphase and m-phase. Interphase is that phase in which a cell grows in size and prepares itself for the division. And m-phase is that phase in which actual division of cells occurs.
Interphase has the following sub-phases – gap1 phase, s-phase and gap2 phase. M-phase has several sub-phases in it which are Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and Telophase.
Telophase is the fourth and last step of M-phase in which following events takes place :
1. Chromosomes present in the cell start to uncoil and lead to the formation of chromatin.
2. Nuclear envelope re-formed.
3. Nucleoli reappears
4. Astral rays disappear
5. Spindle fibers begin to break apart.
6. The telophase ends with cytokinesis.
Cytokinesis means dividing of cytoplasm and results in the formation of two daughter cells. Genetic material is also equally divided in the resultant cells.
Note:
It is also sometimes considered as the reverse of prophase which is the first phase of M-phase as the events that take place in prophase are undone in telophase. Cell cycle is very much important for the cell as it helps in the regeneration of cell, growth and maturation etc. They also undergo few checkpoints while crossing through the whole cell cycle.
