Lymph vessels are thin-walled vessels that are similar to the blood vessels structurally and carry limbs which is a part of a lymphatic system. These vessels help in pushing out the lens forward from the lymph capillaries that are then used for absorption of interstitial fluid from the tissues and these capillaries are larger than the capillaries of the vascular system. The afferent lymph vessels are the lymph vessels that carry lymph to a lymph node and the vessels which carry it from a lymph node are known as efferent lymph vessels. From efferent lymph vessels, the lymph travels to another lymph node that returns to a vein and travels to a larger lymph duct which drains the lymph into other veins and returns it for normal circulation.
A Lymph vessel consists of a functional unit which is the lymphangion. A lymphangion is a segment under two semilunar valves that is contractile that depends upon the ratio of its length to its radius. It acts as a contractile chamber that propels the fluid forward and as a resistance vessel that tends to stop the lymph into its place.
