Hint:We know that human activities have increased the pollution by an alarming rate. All the agricultural land is being converted to commercial land. If the industries are outside the city area it will to some extent help in reducing smoke and air pollution.
Complete step by step answer:
Isolating the activities to a specific area cannot be considered an effective way to reduce pollution. Air, water and soil pollution are interrelated and pollution of one can cause pollution of other resources as well. Pollution cannot be confined to a particular area. Suppose, if air becomes polluted by excessive amounts of carbon dioxide in a particular area it will cause warming of the air over that land. As a result air in that region will rise and this will cause air from nearby areas to move in place. So, carbon dioxide will spread in the atmosphere affecting other areas too. Similarly increased levels of oxides of nitrogen and sulphur in the air of an area will diffuse in the atmosphere affecting other places. The pollution of water bodies of a specific area will cause depletion of oxygen and addition of poisonous substances. Moreover, the soil will lose fertility causing soil erosion. Thus isolating the activities to specific and limited areas won't help but can reduce the effects.
Suppose the industrial waste is collected in a particular area before dumping it then it will reduce water and soil pollution to some extent. The hot water from the industries can be collected and can be cooled and aerated properly before disposing it off into water bodies.
Similarly, if the water is treated before disposing it off in larger water bodies it will reduce water pollution and it will improve quality of life for the aquatic animals. If the factories are set up in an isolated place away from the residential areas, health problems caused due to air pollution will be reduced. If all the industries and commercial places of a city/town are located in a particular area which is far away from a residential area. Then all diseases resulting from air pollution could be minimised.
Additional Information:
Acidification of ocean water is the worst type of pollution. It is caused mainly due to greenhouse emissions from fossil fuels.
Note:
There are eight major types of pollution- air, water, light, noise, soil, radioactive contamination, thermal, visual, and thermal.
