Jahangir was the fourth Mughal emperor. His original name is Nir-ud-din-Muhammad Salim. He was born on 31st August 1569 in Fatehpur Sikri. The name “Jahangir” means conqueror of the world. He died on 28th October 1627. His burial place is “ Tomb of Jahangir” in Lahore. His autobiography is “ Jahangirnama”.

Ustad Mansur is a Mughal painter of the seventeenth century. He was one of the first painters who depicted the bird “dodo” and “ Siberian crane” in his paintings. He earned the title of “ Nadir-al-asar” also called “ unequalled of the age” during the reign of Jahangir. His work is also included in the autobiography of Babur called “ Baburnama”. Some of his important paintings are of the musician Naubat Khan who has also worked in Akbar’s court.

Additional Information – The other artist in the Mughal court were Abul Hasan, Farrukh Beg, Manohar, Murad, Inayat, Muhammad Nadir, and Pidarath. His memorials include a crater on the mercury planet. It is named after Mansur. Peter Simon Pallas gave a binomial name to his Siberian crane painting in 1773.
