Hint: UNICEF is an organisation which looks after and provides support to the children of war-ridden areas. After the medical and food crises of the 1940s, UNICEF started functioning and providing aid to children.

Complete answer:
UNICEF was initially established after the outbreak of World War II. The aim of this organization is to provide children with medical and food assistance in the areas that are badly affected by wars and conflicts. After the medical and food crises of the 1940s, UNICEF continued its role in war-ridden areas and during the 1970s it expanded and became a vocal advocate of children's rights. After the introduction of UNICEF in the United Nation general assembly in 1989, ‘Convention on the Rights of the Child’ became the most ratified human rights treaty in history. The organisation’s broader aim was reflected in the United Nations Children Fund, 1953. UNICEF has focused much on the prevention of diseases like AIDS, etc by providing immunization programmes and by funding and supporting healthcare, nutrition, education and other welfare facilities. It aims at providing each and every child with good health and facilities. UNICEF today works in over 190 countries.

Note: Nobel Prize was awarded to UNICEF in 1965 for its mission and works. Its headquarters is in New York City. Both government and private companies and organisations financed UNICEF.
