1. The first R is Reduce:
Starting usage of multi-use items is to begin reduction. One example would be a coffeepot and a cappuccino maker, both of them perform different functions, but you can buy a coffee pot that has a steaming attachment on it so that you can do both. It is the most effective way to contribute to the waste hierarchy because it reduces the waste created. Consumers should reduce their waste by buying in bulk, items with less packaging material and switching to reusable mode. Businesses can adopt manufacturing methods that require fewer resources and generate less waste.
2. The second R is Reuse:
Even after efforts to reduce the amount of waste generated are being made,the consumers and businesses still create substantial waste. Much of this waste can immediately be reused to minimize the strain on the environment and municipal waste management. For example, the consumers can refill the purchased bottles of water with water from home to minimize the number of plastic bottle use.
3. The third R is Recycle:
When waste is eventually discarded, segregating items for recycling from other waste is important. Recyclables include glass, newspaper, aluminium, cardboard and a surprising array of other materials. Lead has the highest recycling rates because of its use in lead acid batteries.
On a daily basis, we can reduce usage of plastic waste, we can reuse paper bags or jute bags, and we can recycle tetra packs.

Waste that cannot be reused or recycled in some form eventually finds its way to disposal. This disposal includes landfills, but an increasing number of municipalities have elected to divert waste into resource recovery.
