It is located in Tamil Nadu.

Complete answer:
Kanyakumari is the southernmost point of the Indian mainland and is located at the confluence of the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean. It is a district in the state of Tamil Nadu.

In 1656, the Portuguese Ceylon (It was the name given to the territory on Ceylon, modern-day Sri-Lanka, controlled by the Portuguese Empire between 1597 and 1658) was conquered by the Dutch East India Company, and the name eventually turned to "Comorin" and was called Cape Comorin during British rule in India. The city was later renamed Kanyakumari by the Indian government and the Government of Madras.

Some Important Facts
The “Swami Vivekananda Rock” is located here and is considered a wonder in India. The rock is situated in the middle of the meeting point of the three oceans.

The most famous attraction of Kanyakumari is the “Thiruvalluvar Statue” is. The statue is 133 feet high and was built in the memory of Thiruvalluvar, who was the greatest philosopher, poet and saint of Tamil Nadu.

A memorial built in Mahatma Gandhi‘s honour is also located in Kanyakumari. The ashes of the remains of Mahatma Gandhi are preserved in this memorial.

Option (B) Indira Point: It is an incorrect option. Indira Point is the southernmost point of land in the Indian Territory and not that of the Indian mainland.

Option (C) Pondicherry: It is also an incorrect option. Puducherry and Tamil Nadu border the Bay of Bengal and share a 500-mile-long coastline that terminates at the southernmost tip.

Option (D) Cochin: This option is not correct either, as this city is situated by the side of the Arabian Sea, in Ernakulam district, Kerala.

Therefore the correct answer is A

Note
Kanyakumari is the southernmost point of Indian mainland while “Indira Point” is the southernmost point of land in the Indian Territory and the southernmost tip of the Great Nicobar Island.

Formerly Indira Point was known as Pygmalion Point and was named by Rajiv Gandhi.
Due to the 20004 Tsunami, a major part of Indira point was submerged under the sea.
