Hint: Venus is the second closest planet to the sun. It has a dense atmosphere which is mostly composed of carbon dioxide. It has temperature more than that of mercury

Complete answer:
Venus is 0.7 astronomical units away from the sun i.e. about 108 million kilometers. It is next to Mercury which is the closest planet to the sun. The clouds of Venus are made from sulphur and sulphuric acid. Venus is also called earth’s twin because of its similar size and same material of rock.
Venus has a temperature of about 738 k, making it the hottest planet of our solar system. The carbon dioxide presents in its atmosphere traps most of the heat from the sun. Also the clouds act as blanket. Both these factors lead to run of the house greenhouse effect and are responsible for the high temperature. Roundhouse greenhouse effect is the process of the never ending cycle of heat being trapped inside due to the amount of rising carbon dioxide.

So, the correct option is D.

Note:
Now a question arises in mind, why is mercury not the hottest planet? We know that mercury is closest to the sun, but it happens to have no atmosphere. Atmosphere holds and traps heat. Since mercury has no atmosphere any heat received by it is quickly lost. However still it maintains a temperature of 703 K making it the second hottest planet after earth’s twin Venus.
