Hint: In order to solve this question we will first write the ratio of length to the width in the form of fraction then in order to find the length if the width is 40 meters we will put the value of the width and do appropriate substitution and find the value of length.

Complete step by step solution:
For solving this question we will first let that the length is l and the width is b as in question it is given that the ratio of length to the width and write the ratio in terms of fraction so according to fraction:
 $ \dfrac{l}{b} = \dfrac{5}{2} $
For the width 40 meters, we want the length so we will put the value of b = 40 meters in this expression and then we will make all the appropriate transformations and then find the value of length.
So according to expression:
 $ \dfrac{l}{{40}} = \dfrac{5}{2} $
Now we will make the appropriate transformations by putting the unknown in one side and replacing all the values in the other side, so we will put length in one side and take the 40 to the other side in multiplication.
So according to the expression:
 $ l = \dfrac{{40 \times 5}}{2} $
Now on further solving this we will get the final answer:
 $ l = 100 $
So, the correct answer is “ $ l = 100 $ ”.

Note: While solving these types of problems we will have to keep in mind that we should write the ratio correct and its fraction accurately. One thing should be noted by the student that as the width will be changed by the question the length will be changed.
