Excretory system has two major role in an organism, the first one is the maintenance of homeostasis that is the balance between the internal and external surroundings and the second one is the removal of the waste material produced by the cells as a result of numerous metabolic activities i.e. nitrogenous waste, which if not removed can lead to the poisoning and ultimately leading to the death of the organism.
These organs are the primitive ones but can regulate homeostasis as well as waste removal efficiently.
Along with that of the Arthropods also includes Crustaceans and Arachnids which have paired excretory organs that are known as “coxal glands”.
The major organ of excretion in arthropods is “Malpighian tubule”.

Different animals have different mode of excretion on the basis of the habitat they live in:
• Ammonotelic: Since ammonia is highly soluble in water, this mode of excretion is found in animals living in aquatic habitat.

• Ureotelic: Since Urea is less soluble in water, this mode of excretion is found in animals living in terrestrial habitat.
Examples: Mammals, terrestrial amphibians, marine fishes.
• Uricotelic: Uric acid is least soluble in water thus this mode of excretion is found in animals mostly living in aerial habitat.
Examples: Reptiles, Birds, Insects.
