Hint:
1. The civil war in Sri Lanka was fought between 1983 and 2009 among the Tamils and the native community of Sri Lanka, Sinhalese.
2. There was an increasing hold of the native Sri Lankans regime in politics of the country then any other communities.

Complete answer:
The roots of the civil war can be traced back to the continuous political unrest between the majority Sri Lankan community i.e. Sinhalese and the minority Tamils of Sri Lanka. The war continued between 1983 and 2009. Due to intermittent insurgency against the government by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, who wanted to create an independent Tamil state in the north and the east of the island.

This need arose due to continuous discrimination against the Tamils by the Sinhalese dominated Sri Lankan government. This was fuelled by 1956, 1958 and 1977 anti – Tamil programs and the 1981 burning of the Jaffna Public library by the Sinhalese mobs.

The civil war ended after a 26 year long military campaign when the Sri Lankan military defeated the Tamils in the year 2009 (of May).

Option A. - Sri Lankan Tamils and the Indian Tamils also don't construct major parts of Sri Lankan population. Hence it's incorrect too.

Option B. - Hindu and Muslims don't construct major parts of the Sri Lankan population thus Option B. is incorrect.

Option C. - Moors were not involved in the feud with Sinhalas, Hence its an incorrect option.

Option D. - The roots of the civil war can be traced back to the continuous political unrest between the Sinhalese and the minority Tamils of Sri Lanka.

Therefore the answer is D
