Step by step solution
Maharashtra is one of the largest producers of Ragi in India. Ragi is a rich source of calcium, iron, protein, fibre and some other minerals. It is a type of cereal and is low in fat content, containing only unsaturated fat. It's gluten-free and very easy to digest. It's also called Finger Millet and is considered to be one of the most nutritious cereals which helps in controlling weight, maintaining bone health, lowering blood cholesterol etc.
It is rich in amino acids which are vital for normal functioning of the human body and they also repair the tissues. Regular consumption of Ragi helps with keeping malnutrition, degenerative diseases and premature aging at bay.
For good cultivation of Ragi, deep ploughing with mould board plough, followed by ploughing with wooden plough twice is necessary usually in the month of April or May. Fall ploughing is very beneficial for moisture conservation.
Ragi is grown in all the cropping seasons in different parts of the country and more than 90% of the area is under rain-fed conditions, grown during the Kharif season. In Maharashtra particularly, its grown in the Kharif season i.e from May to September.
