Hint: The Western Chalukyas or Chalukyas of Kalyani have created a transitional style today known as the architectural link between the early Chalukya style and that of later Hoysala. Most of its monuments are situated in central Karnataka districts by the river Tungabhadra.

Complete solution:
Chalukyas of Kalyani –
After Dantidurga defeated the Chalukyas of Badami, they revived in around 972-73AD after two centuries. This was identified as Kalyani's Chalukyas and (although this is contested) is supposed to have the same genealogy as those of the previous mighty Chalukyas.
This was established by one of the Rashtrakuta feudatories, Tailapa-II.
The kingdom of Kalyani's Chalukyas is also known as the Empire of Western Chalukya.
In modern Kannada literature as well as Sanskrit literature, this empire makes a great contribution.
The last ruler of the Kaaka II dynasty of Rashtrakuta (Karaka) was killed in 973 AD by Taila II or Tailapa II, the scion of the old Chalukya stock. Thus, Taila II founded the Kalyani Chalukyas dynasty, which lasted for 2 centuries.
The capital of the Dynasty of Rashtrakuta during the 9th and 10th Centuries was originally known as Manyakheta.
Someshwara I –
- Someshwara I reigned from 1042 AD to 1068 AD, also known as Ahavamalla or Trilokamale. Rajadhiraja Chola I, who became Chola king in the same year, i.e. 1042, was the modern Chola King.
- Someshwara I established Kalyani and its capital.
- Someshwara I was replaced with Someshwara II his elder son, but Someshwara II soon was deposed by Vikramaditya VI, a younger brother whose reign is from 1076 - 1126 AD.
- One of the major Kings of this dynasty is Someshwara I. He built a new town/city Kalyana and made it his capital. It is the Basavakalyan in the district of Bidar today.
- Tailapa II, a feudalist from the Rashtrakuta Ruler of Bijapur, conquered his overlords and made Manyakheta his capital in 973 after a successful invasion of their capital by the ruler of the Paramara dynasty in Malwa. The dynasty quickly gained control, and became a Someshwara I empire which moved the capital to Kalyani.

Hence, the correct answer is option C.

Note:
The many Kannada language inscriptions left by kings have been studied to gain knowledge of western Halukya's history. The empire's main source of income was agriculture through land taxation and development.
