Hint: The Carnatic Wars were a series of wars that were fought in the mid 18th century in India. The struggle involved numerous independent rulers which were fought under the Mughal territory with British forces emerging victorious.

Complete answer: The First Carnatic War was fought between 1746 to 1748 B.C. and it is said to be an extension of the war of Austrian succession that was fought in Europe in 1740 B.C. When the war started in Europe England and France found themselves at opposite sides and wanted to establish their peace in India and wanted their home governments respectively. The French government agreed to this but the British government disagreed. It dispatched a naval ship to destroy the French ships that were in the Indian ocean. One of the dismantled ships belonged to Dupleix, the governor of the French company, who was very angry and decided to fight against the English forces which resulted in the starting of the First Carnatic War in the year 1746. The war resulted in the signing of the treaty of Aix la Chapelle in the year 1748 which led to the peace restoration in India. According to the terms of the treaty, Madras was handed over to English and Lumbar was given to France thus ending the first Carnatic War. The French and the English powers came to know about the territorial expansion and it exposed the military weaknesses of the Indians and it emphasized the importance of the navy as an important weapon of the war.

Note: This Carnatic War aroused the French and British hopes of colonising India and expanding their territories in India. The war saw a series of English conquests over French powers.
