Complete answer:
The Indian National Congress was founded in the year 1885 which emerged as the first nationalist movement for the independence of India. This congress was more focused on the principles of Gandhiji and followed the same on the upliftment of all the sections of the society. The first prime minister of congress was Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru from 1947 to 1964. In the year 1966 Nehru’s daughter Indira Gandhi was appointed as the next prime minister who had to face a lot of criticism but apart from all that she was the dominating ruler but lost the elections in the year 1977. In the year 1980 she again rose to power until she was assassinated in the year 1984.

Then, in the year 1944 her son, Rajiv Gandhi succeeded the congress party who was assassinated in 1991. Again, the party was transferred to Sonia Gandhi in the year 1998 and worked as a president and prime minister was Manmohan Singh who served from 2004 to 2014.

The first session of the Indian National Congress held in the year 1885 in Mumbai was presided by W.C. Banerjee and the second session held in Kolkata in the year 1886 was presided by Dadabhai Naoroji.

Note:
The headquarters of the Indian National Congress is at Akbar Road in New Delhi. After the independence of India in the year 1947, it was the only dominating political party which covered almost 70 percent of the seats in the election during the year 1951 to 1967.
