In the 19th century, many Indian students needed to go to England to qualify for the bar or the Covenanted Civil Service. Some students named London Indian Society in 1865 were set up by Pherozesha Mehta, Badruddin Tyabji, W.C. Bannerjee and Manmohan Ghose and their inspiration for the society was Dadabhai Naroji. There were three key activities of the London Indian Society and these were :

1) There should be the discussion of Indian Political, Social and Literary Subjects.
2) There should be the formulation of the Indian Grievances and
3) There should be a misstatement from India to English Press. Several branches were opened in Bombay, Kolkata and Madras in the year 1869.

It was a non – functioning process and yet was still active and had loads. Indian Society of Indian members from all over the sub-continent. It’s stated objective was to advocate for and promote public interests and welfare of Indians.
