In Indian history, the royal dynasty that ruled over the 6th to 12th centuries in the
southern and central India was known as the Chalukya dynasty. It ruled in three relatable dynasties such as; Badami (early Chalukyas), Pullakeshin II (Kalyani or western Chalukyas), and Eastern Chalukyas (Vengi Chalukyas). The society of Chalukyas was divided into four castes viz; Brahmanas, Kshatriya, Vaishyas, and Shudras. Here, Kshatriya played a dominant ruling class among the rest, where Brahmins were the ministers, Vaishyas were the traders and Sudras were the farmers. The Chalukya empire had a very centralized administration. But for its better convenience, it was divided into Rashtras, Vaishyas, Nadus, and Grama. The Rashtra was also known as Rashtrakuta. The Visayas stand for the regions or provinces after their inhabitants. Nadu refers to the domicile land or place especially in the language of southern India. Grama denotes the village area.
