Hint: The British East India Company came to India as dealers in spices, a significant product in Europe in those days. Aside from that, they basically exchanged silk, cotton, indigo colour, tea and opium. They arrived in the Indian subcontinent on August 24, 1608, at the port of Surat.

Complete answer:
The East India Company was set up in December in the year 1600. The founder members of the said company were John Watts and George White. The primary operation of the company was trade, basically for spice which gradually with the advent of time diversified into trade of cotton, silk, indigo, salt-peter, tea, and opium. In the later stages, slave trade was also practiced by the company.
During the 18th century, India was considered to be densely rich in resources and hence the yield of production was enormous. Cheap labour added another star to the attraction along with the fact of abundance of resources for the East India company whose motive was to exploit Indian resources. Soon the company started taking the advantage of bad political conditions of India and slowly started ruling the country.
The British East India Company obtained the permission to trade without tax in the Bengal Province and Agra from the Mughal Emperor Farooq Siyara. He was born on 20th August, 1685, in Aurangabad. He was the grandson of Bahadur Shah who ruled the Mughal Empire from 1713 to 1719.
So, the correct answer is Option D.

Note: Farroq Siyara issued the Farmaan to allow East India Company trade in India with no tax in the year 1717. It is so because William Hamilton, who was the surgeon and part of the East India Company healed Farooq Siyara from his disease. This initiative by Farroq encouraged East India Company to grow its base stronger in India.
