This war was meant to regain political power especially in Europe where Germany and Italy were now more powerful (because of Hitler and Mussolini respectively).In Asia, the power was mainly in the hands of japan which tried to control the pacific region.
The countries were divided into two groups the axis power and the allied powers
1. Axis power:
> Italy -Mussolini fascist party believed in the supreme power of the state.
> Cooperated with Germany around 1936 onward.
> Germany-Hitler Nazi party also believed in territorial, ethnic purity.
> Japan-push for territorial expansion. Attacked Manchuria and invaded china.
2. Allied powers:
> USA-aid to Britain, China, and USSR.declared war on japan.
> Britain-war on Germany in 1939.
> France-also declared war on Germany after Poland was invaded.
> USSR-led by Stalin, signed a nonaggression pact with Germany. Eventually fought with allies.
