Hint:
The Peninsular plateau is a tableland composed of metamorphic, old crystalline, and igneous rocks. It is the oldest landmass as it was formed due to the breaking and drifting of the Gondwana land. The plateau has shallow and broad valleys and rounded hills.

Complete Answer:
The Peninsular plateau consists of two broad divisions, namely, the Deccan plateau and the Central Highlands. The Central Highlands lie to the north of the Narmada River and are wider in the west but narrower in the east covering a major area of the Malwa plateau. The Vindhya range is covered by the Central Highlands on the south and the Aravallis on the northwest. Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand are the eastward extensions of this plateau and the Chotanagpur plateau marks the further eastward extension. On the other hand, there is the Deccan plateau which is a triangular landmass that lies to the south of the Narmada River. It is separated by a fault from the Chotanagpur plateau and it slopes gently eastwards and is higher in the west. The Garo, the Khasi, and the Jaintia Hills are the three prominent hill ranges from the west to east.
The western and the eastern edges of the Deccan plateau are the Western Ghats and the Eastern Ghats respectively. The Western Ghats lie parallel to the western coast and they are higher than the Eastern Ghats. They can be crossed through passes only and are continuous. The Thal, Bhor, and the Pal Ghats are the passes in the Western Ghats.

Thus, option (D) is correct.

Note:
The highest peaks of Western Ghats are the Anai Mudi and the Doda Betta.
