Complete answer: The president of India is the constitutional head of the country. He exercises subordinate powers and has some exceptional powers. He is elected indirectly by the members of the Lok Sabha, the Rajya Sabha and the members of the State Legislative Assemblies. He has to act upon the advice of the council of ministers before making a decision, except for in a few cases, especially when the laws and actions are against the constitution or violate the rules of the constitution. The president is known as the head of the state but not of the executive which is responsible for making laws and policies. All the bills passed by both the houses, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha can be issued only with the assent and signature of the President himself. The president holds office for five years, from the day he joins the office officially. The current President of India is Shri Ram Nath Kovind, who was elected and came to power in the year 2017. The first-ever president of India was Dr. Rajendra Prasad from the year 1950 to 1962.
