Hint: The process of boiling the water to vapours and further condensing in a different container in order to remove the impurities present in the water is called Distilled water. The process which is taking place is called Distillation.

Complete step by step answer:
First, what is distilled water? A water which has been boiled off into vapour and later, this vapour is condensed into liquid in a separate vessel. The impurities present in the water do not boil below or above the boiling point of the water and hence remain in the container. The process of distillation not only removes harmful microbes but also important minerals like Calcium and magnesium.
The process of distilling of water takes place from the Ancient times, that is around AD 200. This process was first described by Alexander of Aphrodisias. The distillation water removes all the mineral content present in the water. Therefore, water will taste flat and flavorless.
Different application of distilled water is given below:
- In order to conduct experiments in the laboratories as well as industries, double distilled water is required.
- Distilled water is used in medical devices such as Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) devices.
- It is also used in Lead acid batteries and Automotive cooling systems.

Additional information:
Comparison between Distilled Water and Purified water.
DISTILLED WATERPURIFIED WATER
The distilled water is produced by Vaporizing and condensing the water. The purified water is produced by undergoing the following process such as Filtration, coagulation, sedimentation and disinfection.
Removes both harmful microbes as well as important minerals.Removes only harmful microbes and chemicals.
The process requires simple equipment. The process requires advanced equipment.
Low cost processHigh cost process.
Distilled water is flat and flavourless.Purified water has good taste.

Note: - Storing the distilled water can cause more problems because containers in which it is stored like plastic, distilled water can absorb trace amounts from those containers.
- We cannot depend on the distilled water for daily dietary minerals. Only very little minerals are present in the water.
